The short version. Every result on this site is an estimate, not a guarantee. It is based on a simplified model and on figures from manufacturers, retailers and reviewers that may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Before you buy or use any treadmill, measure your space yourself, confirm the step-up height and the minimum ceiling clearance with the manufacturer, and follow the manufacturer's installation and safety instructions. You use this site and any exercise equipment at your own risk.
1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms
Treadmill Headroom (treadmillheadroom.com) is operated by Lanternfish Media ("we", "us", "our"). These terms apply to the ceiling height checker, the guides and everything else on this site. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2. Results are estimates, not guarantees
The checker estimates the headroom you would have on a treadmill from the measurements you enter and a set of general assumptions: shoe height, how far your head rises while you walk or run, how far a deck lifts at incline, and a safety margin. Real treadmills, rooms and people vary. Step-up heights change between model years, ceilings and floors are rarely perfectly level, and nobody moves exactly the same way every stride.
Words such as "should fit", "likely to fit", "tight fit" and "won't fit" describe the estimate only. They are not a promise that a treadmill will fit your space, that it will be safe for you or anyone else to use there, or that any figure on this site is correct.
3. Your responsibilities before you buy or use a treadmill
You are solely responsible for deciding whether a treadmill is suitable and safe for your space and for every person who will use it. Before you buy or use one, you should:
- measure your ceiling yourself, to the lowest point above the whole deck, including beams, ducts, pipes, lights, smoke alarms and sloped ceilings;
- confirm the step-up height, the deck height at maximum incline and the minimum ceiling clearance with the manufacturer for the exact model and year you are buying;
- follow the manufacturer's installation, clearance and safety instructions. Where they differ from anything on this site, the manufacturer's instructions apply;
- never place a treadmill under a ceiling fan or anything that moves or hangs;
- ask a qualified professional whether your floor or structure can safely carry the treadmill and its users;
- talk to your doctor before you start or change an exercise program;
- keep children and pets away from treadmills, and follow the manufacturer's guidance on supervision and safety keys.
4. Not professional advice
We are not engineers, architects, contractors, physicians or fitness professionals, and nothing on this site is professional, safety, structural or medical advice. The site is general information only.
5. Assumption of risk
Using a treadmill or any exercise equipment involves risk of injury, including from falls, from contact with ceilings or objects overhead, and from overexertion. You voluntarily assume all risks connected with buying, installing and using any equipment, whether or not you used this site to choose it.
6. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SITE AND ALL OF ITS CONTENT, INCLUDING THE CHECKER, ITS RESULTS, THE GUIDES, PRODUCT DATA AND PRICES, ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, RELIABILITY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY TREADMILL OR OTHER PRODUCT WILL FIT YOUR SPACE, MEET YOUR NEEDS OR BE SAFE FOR YOU OR ANYONE ELSE TO USE.
7. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LANTERNFISH MEDIA AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF, OR RELIANCE ON, THIS SITE OR ANY PRODUCT YOU CHOOSE, BUY OR USE AFTER VISITING IT. THIS INCLUDES PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, PROPERTY DAMAGE, AND THE COST OF RETURNING, RESTOCKING, REPLACING OR ALTERING ANY PRODUCT OR ROOM, WHETHER THE CLAIM IS BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STATUTE OR ANY OTHER THEORY, AND EVEN IF WE WERE ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IF WE ARE FOUND LIABLE DESPITE THIS SECTION, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS IS LIMITED TO FIFTY US DOLLARS (US$50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded or certain damages to be limited. In those places, the exclusions and limits above apply to the greatest extent the law allows.
8. Buying from retailers and manufacturers
We don't sell anything. Any purchase you make is between you and the retailer or manufacturer, on their terms, including their prices, delivery, return and restocking policies and warranties. Check the return policy before you buy, in case the treadmill doesn't fit or doesn't suit you. Prices and availability shown here change often; the retailer's page is always the one that counts.
9. Affiliate links
This site is reader-supported. Retailer links are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Commissions do not change how the checker ranks treadmills.
10. Other websites and trademarks
Links to other websites are provided for convenience. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, products or policies. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any manufacturer or retailer named on this site. Product and brand names are the trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the products.
11. Your agreement to cover us
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lanternfish Media and its owners, employees and contractors from any claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the site, your purchase, installation or use of any product, or your breach of these terms.
12. Changes and general terms
We may update these terms at any time by posting a new version on this page, with a new effective date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
